Research & Initiatives

Contemporary Perspectives in/on Culture and Literature (CPCL) is a research group that has two aims. The first is to analyse and interpret contemporary cultures and literatures in English. The second is to put contemporary perspectives on the literary and cultural canon. CPCL draws on a wide range of narrative theories from the ancient to the contemporary as well as research from across the social sciences including but not only limited to psychology, sociology and cultural and media studies. In doing so, the group aims to provide critical insights into narrative complexities from the ancient to the twenty-first century.

With this in mind, the group aims to

  • Carry out pioneering research in literary and cultural studies

  • Publish leading articles and book chapters

  • To collaborate with other national and international narrative research centres

  • To host national and international webinars, invited talks, workshops, symposiums and conferences.
